Ambernath: A 41-year-old woman has alleged that she was assaulted by former corporator Surendra Yadav and his family members in Ambernath on Sunday night following a dispute over installation of a gate. She has also alleged police inaction, claiming that despite suffering a head injury, only a non-cognisable (NC) complaint was registered instead of an FIR.According to the woman, Barkha Kashyap, Yadav and his family members were installing a gate outside the lane in front of her house, which she claimed would obstruct access to her entrance. When she questioned them about the installation, an argument allegedly broke out.Kashyap has alleged that Yadav and his family members then pulled her by her hair, pushed her to the ground and assaulted her with kicks and blows. She claimed that she sustained a serious injury to her head and was bleeding following the alleged assault.After managing to leave the spot, Kashyap approached Ambernath police station and sought action against those responsible. She alleged that police recorded only an NC and advised her to undergo treatment at a hospital. She was subsequently taken for medical treatment, she claimed.Kashyap further alleged that when she was at the police station, several supporters of Yadav gathered there. During the commotion, police allegedly detained one of Yadav’s supporters, identified as Suresh Mankar, and recovered a country-made revolver and three live cartridges from him.Police subsequently registered a separate case against Mankar under the Arms Act and arrested him in connection with the alleged weapon possession. Kashyap, however, questioned why an FIR was not registered in the alleged assault case despite her injury.Kashyap has also alleged that Yadav’s political connections were influencing the police response. Yadav, a former Congress corporator, is currently associated with BJP. This year, Yadav contested an election on BJP’s ticket but lost the election.When contacted, Ambernath senior police inspector Shabbir Sayyed said he would look into the matter and ensure that the woman’s FIR gets registered.
