Bhilwara/Jaipur: The District Special Team (DST) of Tonk police Tuesday busted an illegal unit involved in preparing counterfeit packaging for ghee brands in the RIICO Industrial Area in Niwai.Police sealed the facility and arrested Aman Jain (30), a resident of Niwai, in connection with the case.The raid was conducted following a tip-off about the production and packaging of fake ghee. Police said the unit was preparing identical wrappers and tins bearing the names and designs of popular brands, including Saras, Amul, Madhusudan, Krishna and Mahavan.According to police, packaging material for around 40,000 litres of fake ghee was being prepared at the unit every day and supplied to major districts of Rajasthan, including Jaipur, Ajmer, Kota, Bhilwara, Beawar and Tonk.Police seized around 20,000 fake 15-litre tins/drums and counterfeit packaging material, including 50,000 one-litre Saras ghee packs, 60,000 one-litre Krishna ghee packs and 40,000 one-litre Mahavan ghee packs. They also recovered large quantities of fake wrappers for half-litre Saras and Madhusudan packs, 5,000 boxes of Amul Pure Ghee (5kg) with fake labels and 5,000 Madhusudan tins with fake wrappers.During the search, officials recovered adulterated ghee, empty tins, labels, counterfeit packaging material and containers bearing the names and designs of well-known ghee brands. The seized material also included fake drums bearing the names of Amul, Madhusudan, Gwalior and Ujariya Oil brands, along with high-tech printing and die equipment, 700 colour frames used for wrapper and sticker printing, an ISI-mark stepper/die bearing number 10325, a die and a packing machine.Police also seized Rs 1 lakh and a Grand Vitara vehicle.Samples of the seized ghee were collected and sent for laboratory testing. A case was registered at Niwai police station under sections related to cheating, food adulteration and the Copyright Act.
