JAIPUR: Two men who entered a bank’s ATM booth in Nagaur allegedly to loot cash were trapped inside after the branch manager lowered and locked the shutter from outside Sunday night. The accused had entered the ATM carrying a gas cutter and other tools, police said. More than Rs 16 lakh was kept in the ATM, police said.The incident took place around 2 am Sunday night at a UCO Bank ATM on Nagaur Road under Marwar Mundwa police station. The branch manager reached the booth with her husband after receiving an alert about suspicious activity through the bank’s e-surveillance system.SHO Mundwa Rajesh Meena said police arrested Bharat Prajapat, a local, and Komal Kumar Rajput, a native of Bihar. “Prajapat runs a dhaba in Mundwa, while Rajput works there. The two allegedly arrived on a motorcycle belonging to another person,” he said. Police have summoned the motorcycle owner for questioning.Additional cash had been loaded into the ATM ahead of a three-day bank strike scheduled from Monday. Police said it contained Rs 16,00,900. At 2.04 am, the bank’s Ajmer regional security officer received an e-surveillance alert about suspicious activity at the ATM and immediately informed the branch manager.The manager, who lives with her family in quarters above the bank, reached the ATM with her husband and found the shutter lowered with movement inside. She told police she immediately locked the shutter from outside and informed them. The police reached the spot within eight minutes. Police received information about the incident at 2.13 am Sunday.The accused allegedly had a bag containing a gas cutter, screwdrivers and other tools. They had opened the ATM from the top, broken its upper cover, applied grease to the CCTV cameras and cut the connectivity wires, police said. However, they could not cut open the cash compartment.
