Gurgaon: Police have initiated a probe into an alleged delay in registering an FIR on a 28-year-old woman’s complaint that a Scorpio driver hit her car and smashed its headlight with an iron rod after a traffic spat on Golf Course Road on Aug 27.The accused in the case was identified as Swayam, a resident of Delhi’s Aya Nagar. Police said Swayam is currently admitted to a private hospital for dengue treatment and a team has been deployed at the hospital. “He will be arrested after discharge,” Sandeep Turan, police spokesperson, said.ACP (Sadar) Dharambir Singh said action will be taken against the cop responsible if the inquiry establishes negligence. “We have initiated a probe pertaining to the allegations and are checking if there was any delay on the part of the police and action will be taken against those responsible for not registering the FIR in time as there is zero tolerance pertaining to crime against women or any harassment caused to women,” he said.The case was registered on Tuesday at Sector 56 police station following repeated complaints and follow-ups by the woman and her mother. The accused was booked under sections 125 (rash or negligent act endangering human life or the personal safety of others), 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief causing damage to property) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Sources said the FIR was registered only after ACP intervened.The woman, Khushboo Verma, told TOI she was travelling with her 51-year-old mother, Pooja Verma, around 10 pm when the incident took place near AIT Chowk. According to her, the Scorpio driver hit her grey Maruti Swift from the left after both vehicles moved ahead from a traffic signal. She slowed down after the impact, following which the driver rolled down the window and abused her and her mother. She alleged that he then took out an iron or steel rod, smashed the headlight of her car and fled.Khushboo said she immediately called the police control room, and a PCR reached the spot and directed her to Sector 56 police station. She submitted a complaint there the same night, and an investigating officer, Narender, was assigned to the matter.However, she alleged that no FIR was registered despite her repeated follow-ups. She said she was first told that the investigating officer was on leave for Rakshabandhan, and later that police were unable to trace the driver because the Scorpio had a temporary registration number (T01250L04558). She said CCTV cameras were installed at AIT traffic signal, and that she later gave police the footage captured by her car’s dashcam.When police allegedly still did not register an FIR, her mother submitted a second complaint on Sept 21, which said that despite the dashcam video given to police, no action was taken and IO Narender had stopped taking their calls. “I was expecting a speedy action pertaining to my complaint which didn’t happen. Police should give priority to the cases in which people carry iron rod on roads,” Pooja submitted in her complaint.Khushboo said she eventually approached ACP and informed him of the delay or police inaction. Sharing her mother’s complaint with him, she also told him that they had not received an official complaint number for it, though police later registered the case.
