Rajkot: A man was arrested at Rajkot railway station on Sunday after police seized 18.46kg of cannabis, valued at around Rs 9.23 lakh, from his possession.Police sub-Inspector Jayendrasinh Parmar of Western Railway’s Rajkot local crime branch (LCB) lodged a complaint at Rajkot Railway police station under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act against Karmveer Patil and Harshsinh Lalaksinh, both 25.Western Railway Rajkot in-charge deputy superintendent of police H M Rana said an LCB team was patrolling the station when it noticed two men carrying trolley bags near the Wankaner end of Platform 1.As the police team approached, one of the suspects fled, while the other was detained. He was identified as Karmveer, a native of Chhattisgarh’s Surajpur district.When questioned about the contents of his trolley bag, Karmveer admitted that it contained a narcotic substance. An official from the forensic science laboratory (FSL) examined the recovered material and confirmed it was cannabis.Karmveer told police that he had travelled to Rajkot aboard the Okha-Shalimar Express. He said Harshsinh knew the identity of the person who was supposed to receive the consignment. Railway LCB has launched a search for Harshsinh, who remains absconding.According to police sources, Karmveer was to get engaged next month and needed money. Harshsinh allegedly offered him Rs 20,000 to help deliver the consignment. Police are verifying Karmveer’s claims and investigating the role of the absconding accused.
