Aizawl: At least 13 families from Saihapui ‘K’ village in Mizoram’s Kolasib district were evacuated to safer locations after the Tuichhuahen river reportedly inundated parts of the village, according to reports received from the state disaster management and rehabilitation department.However, an official of the Kolasib district administration said the village had not been inundated by flood and that residents were facing waterlogging.The official also claimed several families had left their homes in the neighbouring North Chawnpui village amid fears of deluge due to overflowing of the dam of the 12-MW Serlui ‘B’ Small Hydro Electric Project. However, no such incident had occurred so far, the official said.“After watching a number of reels, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) generated pertaining to the massive destructions caused by flash flood in Nepal, the people here have panicked,” he said.Meanwhile, a house was completely damaged in a landslide at Khuangpuilam locality in Kolasib town. No casualties were reported as the structure was being used as temporary accommodation and not as a residential house.Three families were evacuated in Pangbalkawn village after landslides at two locations left their homes in a precarious condition. The landslides also blocked an internal road and damaged a low-tension electricity pole.Several roads and highways have been blocked by landslides, mudslides and rockfalls, causing inconvenience to motorists and commuters. The incidents have also disrupted power supply and telecommunication services in several areas.
