Chennai: A lawyer has moved Madras high court seeking direction to the state and central govts to take steps to trace all Tamils reported missing in Nepal due to the recent flash flood.Admitting the plea on Wednesday, the first bench of Chief Justice Sushrut Arvind Dharmadhikari and Justice G Arul Murugan directed the authorities to file a detailed report on the steps taken in a week.Advocate-general Vijay Narayan submitted that of the 305 people from Tamil Nadu who had travelled on a pilgrimage to Kailash, 220 had been rescued and sent back to their respective hometowns. Efforts were underway to rescue the remaining 85 people, he said.He further informed the court that the family members of those who remained missing, including retired high court judge S Sivananaam, had been taken to Kathmandu at govt expense.The petitioner, advocate Parvez Mushraf, a resident Dindigul, wanted the authorities to place in the public domain the details of people from Tamil Nadu who travelled to Nepal, including those who had been rescued, those undergoing treatment, and those still missing.
