Rajkot: Three people were killed and eight others injured after a speeding car jumped a road divider and collided head-on with an autorickshaw on Lalpur-Dared Road in Jamnagar district in the wee hours of Monday.The accident occurred around 1.30am when a family was returning home after visiting Bholeshwar Mahadev temple near Lalpur in an autorickshaw. According to police, the car was being driven at high speed and in a negligent manner before it crossed the divider and entered the wrong side of the road.Police said the car first hit the autorickshaw and then a motorcycle behind it. The autorickshaw driver, Gulabchand Manekchand alias Babubhai Mokhara, (62), died on the spot. The two motorcycle riders, Noman Sama and Navin Pathan, both 19, succumbed while undergoing treatment, police added.Eight people in the rickshaw were also injured and shifted to GG Hospital in Jamnagar. The injured included Gulabchand’s family members. Some of the injured have suffered serious injuries to their heads, hands and legs, police said.After the crash, the driver abandoned the car at the spot and fled, police said, adding that Gulabchand’s son Kiran lodged a complaint at Jamnagar Panch B Division police station against the unidentified car driver under for culpable homicide, rash driving and endangering life and safety of others under the BNS, along with Sections 177, 184 and 134 of the Motor Vehicles Act.Investigating officer Viren Rathod said the car involved in the accident had been seized and efforts were underway to identify and trace the driver.
