Varanasi: Properties worth Rs 49.91 lakh linked to notorious cattle smuggler Mohammed Yasir will be attached under the Gangsters Act, as authorities intensified their crackdown on organised cattle-smuggling networks and moved to cripple their financial operations.The order was issued by Chandauli DM Chandra Mohan Garg on Sunday following a police recommendation.Chandauli SP Akash Patel said the action against Yasir, a resident of Prayagraj, was taken in connection with a case registered under Section 3(1) of the Uttar Pradesh Gangsters and Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act at Alinagar police station. Police said Yasir has cases registered under provisions of the Cow Slaughter Prevention Act, the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, and IPC sections related to cheating and forgery.Patel said an investigation was underway into Yasir’s cases as part of the ongoing drive to destroy the financial network of organised cattle-smuggling gangs. During the investigation, police found that Yasir had allegedly acquired immovable properties in his name and in the names of other family members using illegally earned money.Cops detected his share in plots 276 and 277 at Bharaitha in Sadar tehsil of Prayagraj. The total area identified for attachment was 818.33 square metres, valued at Rs 49.91 lakh.Cops prepared a report incorporating details from revenue records and sent it to the DM, seeking his order to complete the process of attaching the immovable assets allegedly acquired through criminal activities. Chandauli DM subsequently issued an order for attachment of the property under the Gangsters Act. The Prayagraj district magistrate was also requested to take possession of the property through a competent magistrate.
