Panaji: Over 48 hours after two gunmen shot at a casino boss in Porvorim, police remain clueless about the motive and whereabouts of the accused, despite questioning several people.Porvorim police have questioned several people with whom the accused were seen talking at the hotel before the incident, but failed to get any leads.Police said that efforts are being made to identify the accused, adding that they are exploring all angles to find out the motive behind the attack, including business deals, business rivalries, and personal enmity. Goa police have ruled out any extortion angle.Police have also found that the accused used a 9mm caliber gun and two live bullets were recovered from the crime scene.The incident took place on Friday a few meters from the Porvorim police station. CCTV footage clearly shows two persons trying to cover their faces with caps to avoid being recorded.The footage reveals that both accused were waiting outside the hotel to shoot Shrinivas Nayak, director, Majestic Pride Group, which operates offshore and onshore casinos in Goa. Porvorim police registered an ‘attempt to murder’ FIR.The accused fired three rounds and when hotel security tried to nab them, the accused ran from from the crime scene. Nayak was not injured in the shootout.Director general of police (DGP) Alok Kumar said that police have got some leads, and the accused would be arrested soon. Kumar said that multiple teams have been constituted to nab the accused.Nayak, in his complaint, said that the attack was sudden, deliberate, and “directed specifically at me”. Nayak said their acts therefore amount to a serious attempt to murder and not merely an act of intimidation or threat.“Fortunately, the shots fired by the assailants missed me and I escaped without sustaining any firearm injury. However, the fact that the shots did not hit me was purely fortuitous and does not diminish the gravity of the offence or the evident intention of the assailants to cause my death,” said Nayak.
