Enough is Enough to sue officials, ministers over land, casino issues

Panaji: The Enough is Enough movement has decided to file criminal cases against senior govt officials and ministers for abusing their power and authority by granting development permissions at Karapur-Sarvan and ignoring violations at casinos operating in the state. While the movement has not named any minister or govt official, the leaders have clearly aimed at the BJP-led govt.“There is a credible case to file criminal cases against high officials, including politicians who have misused their power and position to benefit certain people or to benefit themselves. We discussed and examined this issue, and after careful legal scrutiny, we propose to file these cases, particularly in the Karapur-Sarvan land issue. The second is the casinos. We will file the cases in Sep,” said retired Allahabad chief justice Ferdino Rebello.Rebello chaired a core committee meeting to discuss the way forward after govt ignored the Enough is Enough movement’s 10-point charter and blocked the introduction of a comprehensive agricultural land protection bill in the Assembly.“This is the most important bill, and if it is passed, it will protect our land from being sold to persons who have no interest other than to make money out of it. BJP has shown that they don’t want this law. So we are now clear that somebody else has to come in to bring in this law. We will write to the political parties in Goa to support this bill on the non-transfer of agricultural land,” he said. The movement plans to write to all opposition party presidents seeking public support for the bill and an assurance that its passage will feature in their election manifestos, while simultaneously strengthening its organisation to mobilise support across the state.
