Chennai: Political leaders from Tamil Nadu paid rich tributes to Congress stalwart and Tamil Maanila Congress founder G K Moopanar on his 25th remembrance day.Tamil Nadu Congress Committee president Manickam Tagore, MDMK general secretary Vaiko, former BJP state president Tamilisai Sounderarajan, CPM veteran T K Rangarajan, Congress leaders Peter Alphonse and Praveen Chakravarthy were among the leaders who visited Moopanar’s memorial in Teynampet to pay floral tributes. State fisheries minister A Srinath paid tributes on behalf of the state govt.“When we were in the youth Congress, he was an inspirational icon for us,’’ Tagore said. Tamilisai Sounderajajan recalled that though Moopanar was steadfast in his principles, he would not be harsh even with his opponents. Vaiko said Moopanar was one among the towering leaders of the Congress nationally, but had placed the party’s welfare above his personal aspiration.CPM leader Rangarajan lauded TMC president G K Vasan for his efforts to carry forward Moopanar’s legacy.
