Rohtak: The death of Narendra Dhankhar, a retired former superintendent of Maharshi Dayanand University (MDU), in a tragic road accident near the university’s newly constructed gate No. 4 has sparked anger among members of the MDU Non-Teaching Employees’ Union.A delegation of the union met the MDU registrar and submitted a memorandum demanding the installation of a speed breaker and warning boards in front of gate No. 4 to prevent similar accidents in the future.MDU non-teaching employees’ union president Suresh Kaushik said there is currently no speed breaker, warning board or roundabout on the main road in front of gate No. 4. As a result, vehicles passing through the area often travel at high speeds, posing a serious risk to university employees, students and the general public.He said the lack of adequate traffic-safety measures has made the stretch vulnerable to road accidents and urged the authorities to take immediate action.General secretary Vijaypal Dhankhar said the road falls under the jurisdiction of the Haryana Shehri Vikas Pradhikaran (HSVP). He urged the registrar to take immediate cognisance of the matter and forward the union’s memorandum, along with the university administration’s recommendations, to the HSVP administrator.He said installing a speed breaker and appropriate warning signage near the university gate was essential to ensure the safety of students, employees and other commuters.Vijaypal Dhankhar said the MDU administration and HSVP must accord the matter the highest priority to prevent such accidents in the future. He stressed that concrete traffic-safety measures are needed to protect the lives of students, employees and members of the public using the road.Varsity registrar Sandeep Bansal said that they have taken note of the sensitivity of the issue, and assured the union delegation that appropriate and prompt administrative action would be taken.
