Jind: A foot march announced by the Samyukt Kisan Morcha (Non-Political) from the Data Singhwala-Khanauri border could not proceed on Tuesday either, as the Haryana Police and the administration stopped the farmers from moving ahead.Several companies of police personnel remained deployed at the border. The administration has installed multiple layers of concrete and iron barricades along with barbed wire to prevent farmers from crossing into Haryana. “We are monitoring the situation through drones and CCTV cameras, while water-cannon vehicles and Vajra vehicles have also been deployed,” said a police officer.Jind SP Kuldeep Singh had visited the border and reviewed the security arrangements with senior police officials. DSP Narwana Kamaldeep Rana and other senior officers were also present. The situation remained peaceful throughout Tuesday.Meanwhile, farmers continued their protest around one kilometre inside Punjab in the Khanauri area. Farmer leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal was present at the protest site and held meetings with farmers regarding the next course of action.Dallewal said the Punjab and Haryana high court and the Supreme Court should take cognisance of the matter and ensure that farmers are allowed to proceed. He said three rounds of talks with the administration had failed to produce any result.Dallewal maintained that the farmers want to peacefully march on foot towards Delhi to take their demands to the central govt. He said their demand concerning the US trade deal falls under the jurisdiction of the central govt, and the Union agriculture ministry, and therefore talks should be held with the central leadership.He also said that the farmers would remain at the border for now, but would not block the road and would sit on one side of the service lane. Meanwhile, Haryana police have also intensified checking on nearby rural and link roads. Checkpoints have been set up around Ujhana, Padarthkhera, Garhi, Dhaunri and other routes to prevent farmers from bypassing the main border.Traffic on the Delhi-Patiala National Highway has also been diverted due to border restrictions.
