Chennai: Sleuths from Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI) on Sunday intercepted two men in possession of foreign currency worth ₹17.65 lakh and thwarted their bid to smuggle the cash to Bahrain. Based on a tip-off, the officials camped at Chennai airport and intercepted two men who were scheduled to fly to Bahrain on a Gulf Air flight. Their luggage was checked, and the sleuths found US dollars hidden amid clothes. In total, $18,000 worth ₹17.65 lakh was seized from the duo. Since the passengers did not possess any valid documents, the duo were handed over to Chennai Customs for further investigation. The money was seized, and further investigation is underway.
