TNNChennai: Tension prevailed outside the chief minister C Joseph Vijay’s Perambur MLA office in Sharma Nagar, as residents of Selaivayal in Kodungaiyur gathered over lack of proper roads, drainage, and streetlights in their locality.The residents, who came to submit their petition on Monday morning, said repeated representations to the MLA office had failed to resolve the issues. Tension prevailed outside the office after they said they had not received a proper response from the officials.“We have been demanding proper drainage and road facilities for years. We have also approached the MLA office since it opened. This is the Chief Minister’s constituency. We are asking only for our basic rights, but there is no proper response,” said S Ashok, a resident.In their petition, residents of Vedantham Murugappa Naicker Street said around 70 people lived in the locality and paid taxes regularly, but the area continued to lack proper roads, streetlights and drainage.After about an hour, around 11.30am, police, along with TVK members, asked the residents to disperse.TVK district secretary for Chennai North (North) and chairman of Tamil Nadu Housing Board V Siva, said the issue was currently pending before the court and that the residents’ concerns would be examined.
