TNNGauribidanuru: A KSRTC bus caught fire near Melya village in Gauribidanuru taluk in Chikkaballapur district Saturday. The incident occurred around 4pm when the bus was heading towards Madipadugu village from Gauribidanuru.According to Siddalingesh, divisional controller, KSRTC, Chikkaballapur, 32 passengers were on board, and no one was injured. He said the driver noticed a spark in the engine starter and immediately alerted the passengers. The driver and conductor helped the elderly and children get off the bus.Though the bus was equipped with a fire extinguisher, the crew could not use it as they were busy evacuating the passengers, Siddalingesh said.A portion of the bus was gutted in the fire. Repairs will be carried out and the bus is expected to return to service within a week, he said.
