Gandhinagar: The state govt launched the second edition of its flagship athlete support initiative, Shaktidoot 2.0, at an event presided over by deputy chief minister Harsh Sanghavi at Mahatma Mandir in Gandhinagar on Wednesday.Launching the scheme, Sanghavi said the state govt is working towards creating an ecosystem that enables athletes from Gujarat to compete at the highest level and bring laurels to the country. “Gujarat’s athletes will enhance the glory of the tricolour on the world map in the next 10 years,” Sanghavi said, highlighting the role of state initiatives such as Khel Mahakumbh and Shaktidoot in nurturing sporting talent.

Fifty seats have been reserved for persons with disabilities. Players will be able to apply directly on the portal based on their medals and performance throughout the year,” he said.The govt also announced plans to establish a world-class sports science and sports medicine recovery facility in Gujarat to help athletes recover from injuries and return to competitive sport. The facility is expected to provide specialised support as part of the state’s broader push to strengthen sports infrastructure and athlete development.
The govt also honoured 799 sportspersons for their achievements in sports with the Eklavya Award, Sardar Patel Award and Jaideepsinhji Award
At the event, sports facilities and library infrastructure worth more than Rs 388 crore were inaugurated or had their foundation stones laid. The projects are aimed at expanding access to modern sporting and educational facilities across the state.The govt also honoured 799 sportspersons for their achievements in sports with the Eklavya Award, Sardar Patel Award and Jaideepsinhji Award.
