Gurgaon: The Faridabad family was looking forward to the birthday of Saksham Rawat.On Saturday, the seven-year-old boy was crushed to death after an e-rickshaw overturned on him — three days away from his birthday on Aug 11 — leaving the family members devastated.The Class 3 student was riding his bicycle with a friend when it collided with the e-rickshaw near a T-point in front of his Sector 31 house on Saturday evening. The e-rickshaw, which was carrying large water bottles, overturned while the driver tried to avoid the child, trapping him underneath and causing a serious head injury around 5.30pm.Saksham had completed one round on his bicycle and was returning towards his house when he reached the T-point and collided with the vehicle coming from the opposite direction. As the driver tried to avoid the child, he moved the e-rickshaw onto the ramp of a house on the other side. The vehicle lost balance and overturned towards Saksham. Police investigation also found that large water bottles were loaded in the e-rickshaw, adding to its weight.Saksham’s father, Ajay Rawat, was outside the house at the time. Hearing screams following the accident, he and other residents rushed to the spot. Within one to two minutes, they managed to pull Saksham out from under the overturned e-rickshaw and rushed him to a private hospital in Sector 19. Saksham had suffered heavy blood loss. Doctors declared him dead.The death of Saksham, the only son of Ajay and his wife, has left the family in deep shock. Family members said his parents had been looking forward to celebrating his birthday. He was born after 10 years of their wedlock.“His mother was inconsolable after learning about the accident and fainted several times,” a police officer said, adding Ajay, who originally hails from Fatehabad in Agra district of Uttar Pradesh, works as a software engineer with a company in Noida. He has been living with his family.Police reached the spot after receiving information about the accident and sent the body for an autopsy. The body was later handed over to the family.On the complaint of Saksham’s father, police registered a case against the e-rickshaw driver Rohit under sections 281 (rash driving) and 106 (causing death due to negligence) at Sector 31 police station. “The accused resides near the house of the victim and he will be arrested soon,” the officer said.Sanitation staffer dies: A sanitation worker died of suffocation while cleaning a factory manhole in Sector 25 in Faridabad on Monday, while another worker who was with him was admitted to a private hospital in critical condition.The two men had entered the manhole to clean it without safety kits, according to local residents. The deceased worker’s family has accused the factory owner of negligence.The deceased was identified as Aslam, a resident of Ashiyana Flats in Sector 56. He and his colleague Bunty lived in the same locality.A plot owner had called the two men to clean a manhole outside his factory. They reached the spot at around 10am on Monday and entered the manhole to carry out the cleaning work.Local residents said the two workers had not been provided safety kits and that no factory employee was present at the spot when they entered the manhole. Within a short time, both began experiencing breathing difficulties and called for help.People nearby tried to pull the two workers out of the manhole and informed the police, who reached the spot and pulled both men out. Aslam had died by then, while Bunty was taken to a private hospital in critical condition.Yashpal Yadav, police spokesperson, said that police received information around 1.30pm, following which teams reached the spot and rescued both of them, but one of them died. “We have received a formal complaint from victim’s sister and the case will be registered for causing death due to negligence,” SI Yashpal Yadav said.
