Cursor launches India-only plan at Rs 649 a month

Bengaluru: AI startup Cursor on Tuesday became the latest company to introduce an India-specific pricing plan. At Rs 649 a month, payable via UPI, Cursor Start costs a fraction of the company’s premium Cursor Pro subscription, priced at $20 (about Rs 1,915) a month.The move marks the company’s first step towards monetising its third-largest market.The San Francisco-headquartered startup was founded in 2022 by 25-year-old Indian-origin entrepreneur Aman Sanger, along with Michael Truell, Sualeh Asif and Arvid Lunnemark.Last month, Cursor also made headlines as the subject of one of the biggest AI startup acquisitions. Elon Musk-founded SpaceX agreed to buy Anysphere, the company behind Cursor, in a $60 billion all-stock deal.Since the second half of 2025, global AI companies have been sharpening their India strategies as they compete for one of the world’s fastest-growing markets. OpenAI introduced ChatGPT Go, a Rs 399-a-month subscription plan built for India. Perplexity partnered with Bharti Airtel to offer its services free to 360 million subscribers. Google also partnered with Reliance Jio to provide free access to Gemini Pro.Earlier this month, Anthropic rolled out rupee-denominated plans for its conversational AI assistant, Claude.India’s growing relevance is not lost on Cursor.“India has one of the most ambitious and active developer communities in the world. Our user base in India has tripled in the past year to more than 3 million developers, making it our third-largest market globally. It is also home to more power users than any other market in the world, with developers in India running more agent requests per developer than anywhere else,” the company said in a blog post on Tuesday.— Siddharth Sathya
