Varanasi: Under the ongoing Operation Cy-Vazra, the Cantt police arrested 10 women for allegedly operating a racket that cheated people with false promises of finding suitable marriage partners.DCP (crime) Neetu Kadian on Tuesday said that based on the outcome of investigation into complaints of fraud in the name of matrimonial services, Cantt police busted a fake call centre in Vindhyavasisni Nagar colony of Orderly Bazar area and arrested 10 women. Police said the gang has cheated several people of about Rs 10 lakh through online transactions.The accused used websites and social media advertisements to lure victims, then demanded money as registration fees or service charges. After receiving payments, the accused would either avoid the victims or use fake profiles to continue trapping them.The DCP said that 27 mobile phones, documents containing victims’ details, bank account information and fake identity proof documents were seized from the premises. Further interrogation is underway to identify other members of the gang, trace money trails and determine the full scale of the network, he added.
