BENGALURU: A group of veterinary doctors has filed a complaint with the Vidhana Soudha Police, alleging large-scale irregularities in the Karnataka Public Service Commission (KPSC) recruitment process.The issue pertains to selection process for 400 veterinary officer posts in the animal husbandry and fisheries department. The doctors have sought an investigation into the selection process.The KPSC conducted the recruitment examination in January 2026, while the final selection list was released on July 17.According to the complainants, several candidates were allegedly approached by middlemen who demanded between Rs 70 lakh and Rs 80 lakh in exchange for securing appointments.They claimed to have submitted audio clips of these conversations to the police.The complainants also alleged that some tests were held at resorts.They further questioned the marks obtained by some selected candidates, alleging that the results had raised serious concerns about the fairness of the recruitment process.In the complaint, they also alleged that several candidates who secured high scores were related to people holding influential positions in the KPSC.Some complainants further claimed that many of the successful candidates had failed their degree examinations.The complaint comes days after governor Thaawarchand Gehlot suspended KPSC chairman Shivashankarappa S Sahukar on July 13 over allegations that he facilitated the illegal selection of his two daughters as industrial extension officers.The BJP alleged that the KPSC had become a hub of corruption under the Congress government.“An audio clip allegedly exposing an Rs 80 lakh deal for the recruitment of a Veterinary Officer has surfaced. It has shattered the dreams of lakhs of young aspirants,” the party alleged in a post on X.The party demanded the immediate suspension of the recruitment process, an independent high-level inquiry, and appropriate action against the middlemen and the influential persons allegedly involved.Leader of opposition in the Karnataka Assembly R Ashoka alleged there was “cash for jobs” in Karnataka.“Has Congress turned government recruitment into an auction? Crocodile tears in Delhi, silence over Karnataka’s KPSC scandal! – Congress’ hypocrisy stands exposed,” the BJP leader alleged.“To @RahulGandhi and @priyankagandhi, who never miss an opportunity to lecture the nation about youth empowerment and student rights – why is your own @INCKarnataka government’s massive corruption in recruitment invisible to you?” he asked.He also questioned chief minister DK Shivakumar over what he described as the government’s silence on allegations that KPSC veterinary officer posts were being sold for as much as Rs 80 lakh.(With inputs from PTI)
