Mumbai FDA Shuts Down Four Bakeries for Food Safety Violations

Mumbai: After cracking down on the illegal sale of gutka, unhygienic restaurants and milk adulteration, the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) has turned its attention to bakeries across Mumbai.During a special drive covering 34 bakeries, FDA officials found several establishments operating without mandatory registration or licences, besides detecting food safety and hygiene violations.The FDA issued closure notices to four bakeries: Bengaluru Iyengar Bakery (Kalachowkie), Golden Bakery (Chirag Nagar, Ghatkopar West), Mirza & Sons Bakery (Vikhroli West) and Big Bite Bakery (Akurli Road, Kandivali East). In addition, the FDA suspended the licences of five bakeries with immediate effect, issued improvement notices to 22 bakeries, while three establishments were fined for violating food safety norms.The FDA directed bakery owners to strictly comply with the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006, and related regulations, warning that similar inspections and action against violators will continue.
