Barnala: The Punjab State Scheduled Castes Commission and Punjab State Women Commission has taken suo motu cognisance of the July 22 police action on sanitation workers in Barnala, seeking a report from the SSP by July 28.The move comes just a day after the National Commission for Safai Karamcharis had taken note of the incident and directed chief secretary K A P Sinha to get the matter investigated. Punjab State Women Commission chairperson Raj Lali Gill on Thursday said she was shocked to see the videos on social media of police officials resorting to lathi-charge on protesters, including women. “Legal action should be taken against the guilty,” Gill said. Protests were held in Bathinda, Gidderbaha, Faridkot, Moga, Muktsar and Sangrur on Thursday against the police action. The protesters met the injured at civil hospital and demanded stern action against the guilty police officials.
