Varanasi: An Italian national was referred to Govt Mental Hospital on Wednesday, following nuisance created by his antics and incidents of his getting beaten up by locals, videos of which were viral on social media.Police commissioner Mohit Agrawal said Adampur police were asked to initiate necessary action and send a report to the Italian embassy regarding the activities of the tourist.According to the foreigners registration office of the local intelligence unit, tourist Fabio, 40, arrived in the city via Delhi on a tourist visa on Jul 16. Immediately after reaching the city, he started creating nuisance in the streets of the old city. On the first day of his stay in the city, he reached Saptsagar, the biggest medicine wholesale market of east UP. In the videos in circulation, the tall and strong, heavily tattooed Italian in a sleeveless vest and capri is seen monkeying around in the street and even entering many homes, throwing household items onto the streets. When locals tried to stop him, he fought them, after which they beat him.He kept reaching many areas, but did not cause any serious disturbance for the next couple of days. But fresh videos made by residents of Pilikothi under Adampur police station and other localities showed him entering shops and disturbing the order of articles kept there. When shopkeepers tried to stop him, he manhandled them. Local traders beat him with sticks. Adampur cops reached the spot and held him.Police rushed him to SSPG divisional hospital on Tuesday night, where doctors referred him to Govt Mental Hospital to ascertain whether his abnormal behaviour was due to a mental issue or the influence of intoxicants.
