Lucknow: Lucknow police on Tuesday arrested four alleged members of a burglary gang and recovered stolen gold and silver jewellery worth over ₹20 lakh from their possession in connection with a recent theft at the residence of a sub-inspector in the PGI area.The accused — Arjun Rawat (22), Sudaif Ali alias Samar (23), Vinay Kumar (26) and Deepak Yadav (25) — were arrested from a deserted stretch near the canal road leading to Kalindi Park following an intensive investigation, police said.The theft came to light on July 10 when the family of sub-inspector Sanjay Yadav returned home after visiting Vindhyachal in Mirzapur for the mundan ceremony of their younger son. On reaching the house, they found the locks broken and valuables missing.ADCP south, Vasanth Kumar, constituted three special teams who screened footage from nearly 150 CCTV cameras, and other electronic evidence, questioned residents and carried out raids at several locations.The breakthrough came through technical surveillance and intelligence gathering.During interrogation, the four allegedly admitted to being part of a gang that specifically targeted locked houses.According to police, the gang conducted reconnaissance to identify homes whose occupants were away before breaking in. The accused allegedly divided the stolen property among themselves and then moved to other districts or states to avoid detection.Police recovered a large cache of stolen ornaments, including gold bangles, necklaces, rings, a mangalsutra, pendant, nose ring, earrings and several silver items.
