Rs 14cr Yaba tablets seized in 3 Barak raids, 6 held

Silchar: Police seized 96,000 suspected Yaba tablets valued at around Rs 14 crore in three separate operations across the Barak Valley on Tuesday.Six alleged drug peddlers were arrested from Sribhumi and Cachar districts during the operations.The biggest seizure was at Channighat in Sribhumi, where police recovered 80,000 Yaba tablets worth about Rs 9 crore from a van without a registration number. Acting on inputs, police and an intelligence unit laid a trap on Tuesday morning and found 240 soap cases containing the tablets.The three occupants — Enam Hossain and Shamim Uddin of Dalgram, and Altaf Hossain of Dalugang — were arrested. Preliminary probe indicated the consignment was smuggled from Mizoram.Police sources said complaints were pouring in for months that drug syndicates were using parts of Ramakrishnanagar, including Vetarbond and Cheragi, as a “safe corridor” for transporting narcotics.In Cachar, Silchar Sadar police seized 10,000 suspected Yaba tablets, weighing 1,094 grams, from Malakar Patti and arrested two men. Katigorah police seized 6,000 tablets, weighing 654 grams, from Lathimara and arrested one person.Separate NDPS cases have been registered.
