Lucknow: The Lucknow Development Authority (LDA) has proposed a 7.5km Gomti Sports Corridor along the Gomti river near Rashtra Prerna Sthal under the Uttar Pradesh State Capital Region (UPSCR) plan.“The project aims to develop the stretch into a hub for sports, recreation, tourism and public activities,” said LDA vice-chairperson Prathamesh Kumar adding that the corridor was among the major projects proposed under the UPSCR plan and expected to give a new identity to the riverfront while promoting sports, tourism and environmental conservation.The proposal includes indoor and outdoor sports arenas, community sports clubs and dedicated spaces for water sports. River promenades, cycling tracks and walking paths are also planned along the riverbank to encourage recreation and improve public access to the waterfront.Boating facilities, jetties and community ghats will be developed as part of the project. The plan also includes wellness parks, open spaces for yoga and other outdoor activities, an open-air theatre, entertainment zones and glamping sites.To improve the natural landscape, the project envisages a city forest, botanical and flower gardens, eco-trails and forest trails. These features are aimed at increasing green cover along the riverfront.The proposed corridor will be linked with Ekana Stadium and nearby developed areas to create an integrated sports hub. Retail and commercial spaces are also planned along the riverfront.
