Rs 2,100 Cr allocated for land acquisition for satellite city project around the LGBI Airport

Guwahati: The Budget 2026-27, presented in the Assembly on Friday, proposed the development of a satellite city centred around the Lokpriya Gopinath Bordoloi International Airport, with an allocation of Rs 2,100 crore for land acquisition.Finance minister Jayanta Mallabaruh said sustained economic growth requires the creation of modern urban growth centres capable of attracting investments and creating jobs. Drawing parallels with the economic transformation brought about by Noida in Uttar Pradesh, Gurgaon in Haryana and New Town Kolkata in West Bengal, he said Assam must establish a similar growth hub to unlock its economic potential and provide greater opportunities for its youth.The proposed Aerotropolis around the Guwahati airport will serve as the nucleus of the satellite city. According to the govt, the upcoming bridge over the Brahmaputra near the airport will further strengthen connectivity and accelerate urban expansion in the region.The project will be implemented by the Guwahati Satellite City Development Authority (GSCDA), a dedicated Special Purpose Vehicle of the Assam Govt. The minister said the project will remain 100%govt -owned, ensuring that the benefits of development accrue directly to the people of Assam.Envisioned as a modern urban hub, the satellite city will feature world-class infrastructure, industrial and commercial districts, and modern social amenities. The govt expects the project to emerge as a major destination for investment, business and employment generation, supporting Assam’s long-term economic transformation.To expedite implementation, the Budget proposes an allocation of Rs 2,100 crore for land acquisition, marking the first major step towards the development of what is expected to become one of the state’s largest planned urban centres.
