Silchar: A five-year-old girl died after being bitten by a snake while asleep at her home in Alinpur Fari village in Cachar district on Tuesday morning. Residents said the snake was suspected to be a king cobra.The child, identified as Riddhi Mal, was the daughter of Dipak Mal and Sabitri Mal.According to residents, the incident occurred around 7 am. The snake reportedly bit Riddhi on the lip, following which her family and other villagers rushed her to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH).Residents alleged that their journey was delayed by the poor condition of the road connecting the village. Riddhi’s condition deteriorated on the way, and doctors at SMCH declared her dead on arrival, sources said.The death prompted residents to raise concerns about poor road connectivity and the time required to reach major healthcare facilities during emergencies.They demanded immediate repairs, saying better connectivity was essential to ensure that patients from the area could reach hospitals without potentially life-threatening delays.
