Noida: Five children and a couple were injured after a car struck a parked scooter outside Panchsheel Greens and ploughed through a group of children and parents waiting for a school bus in Greater Noida West on Wednesday, police said.A resident of the society, Nikita, was driving out of the society to drop her children off at school. Eyewitnesses claim that she was busy on her phone and missed the people waiting at the curb. As soon as she became aware of their presence, she allegedly panicked and pressed the accelerator instead of the brake.The impact knocked down a scooter parked in the service lane and then ploughed through the children. Eyewitnesses alleged that one of the girls had briefly come under the vehicle.Among the injured were Tina Saxena, her husband, Swapnil Saxena, their child and several other children. Tina suffered a head injury, while the children suffered minor bruises and abrasions. Police said all the injured were taken for medical examination and discharged after first aid.Police reached the spot soon after and seized the car involved in the accident. Officers said no written complaint had been submitted by the injured people or their families at the time of filing this report. The station house officer said an FIR would be registered if a formal complaint is received and action would be taken against the driver.The incident has angered the residents of the housing society, who claimed that the area outside the main gate gets crowded every morning as children gather to board school buses. They said it was not a dedicated bus stop and it has long posed a safety risk due to the movement of vehicles during peak school hours.They have demanded the installation of speed breakers and measures to bring down traffic near the society gate to prevent similar accidents. They have also urged authorities to take strict action against negligent driving and ensure better safety arrangements for schoolchildren and parents during morning pick-up hours.
