Dimapur: Girls dominated this year’s Chief Minister ’s Meritorious Students Fellowship (CMMSF) Award in Nagaland, with 43 of the 56 recipients being female students from indigenous Scheduled Tribes who excelled in the HSLC Examination 2026.The state education department felicitated the students at the Capital Convention Centre in Kohima on Thursday.The initiative recognises meritorious students with certificates and provides them financial assistance for five years.Addressing the programme as the special guest, adviser to the school education department Kekhrielhoulie Yhome said the 56 achievers distinguished themselves through hard work and perseverance.Congratulating the students for their outstanding academic achievements, Yhome urged them to continue striving for excellence with dedication, perseverance and integrity. He also asked them to use their knowledge and talents in the service of society and the state. “Remain humble, remember your roots, and contribute positively to society in the future,” he told the students.Yhome also said 43 of the 56 awardees were girls, noting the increasing number of girls excelling academically in recent years. He later presented awards and certificates to the 56 meritorious students.In his welcome address, Nagaland Board of School Education chairperson Rangumbuing Nsarangbe said the CMMSF was a testament to the generosity and commitment of the chief minister towards promoting academic excellence.He said continuation of the fellowship would be subject to one condition — the students must secure at least 80% marks in their examinations each year to remain eligible for the grant.
