Dhubri: A 55-year-old man was killed after being hit by a DEMU train in Dhubri town’s Linepar area on Friday.The deceased was identified as Anil Das, a Linepar resident associated with a sweet shop. Residents said he was near the railway track when he was struck by the approaching train. He died on the spot.Railway personnel and security officials reached the site and began an inquiry into the incident.Residents expressed concern over the safety of people living near the track. Resident Prabhat Das said Anil was walking along the track and “most probably couldn’t hear the sound of the approaching train.”“The area under Ward No. 16 of Dhubri town is highly populated and congested, with no barricade on either side of the railway track, and as a result, mishaps now and then take place, and people die. Now the railway as well as the Dhubri civic body should take some steps to prevent such accidents,” Prabhat added.Anil is survived by his wife, a son and a daughter.
