BENGALURU: Sleuths from Central Crime Branch arrested five rowdy sheeters on charges of extorting Rs 40,000 from a gym trainer, by posing as CCB cops and threatening the trainer to fix in a drug case.The trainer had lodged a complaint when accused persons started forcing him to pay Rs five lakhs more.Accused are Tirumala V, 28, of Yelahanka, S Shanta Kumar, 44, of Vidyaranyapura, N Prem Sai, 30, of Yelahanka, Ranjeeth Rao, 31 and C Namith alias Abhi, 29, both from RT Nagar.They were arrested based on the complaint filed by gym trainer-Mithul Kumar.“On June 19 evening, accused persons blocked Mithul Kumar near City Institute, Pampa Mahakavi Road in Shankarapuram. Saying they were CCB police, they bundled Kumar into their multi-uitility-vehicle and said they were arresting him on drug peddling charges. Kumar argued he was innocent but they threatened Kumar. To terror Kumar more, accused parked the MUV near Mico Layout police station and two of them went inside. After coming little later, they told Kumar that they will arrest him. However, they agreed to let him free if he gives Rs 50,000. Kumar had Rs 40,000 in his account and made an online transfer to one of the accused,” an investigating officer said.Two days later, accused called Kumar again and demanded Rs five lakhs.“This time, Kumar approached us, saying he was being threatened by police. On inspecting, we found that they were not police but rowdy sheeters. After registering a case, we arrested them,” an investigating officer said.
