Hyderabad: Hyderabad will continue to be at the centre of India’s BRICS engagements next month, hosting the second meeting of the BRICS anti-corruption working group on Aug 4 and 5. The meeting comes just weeks after the city hosted the BRICS labour and employment ministers’ meeting.Around 40 delegates from the 11-member bloc are expected to take part in the two-day meeting. The gathering assumes significance as India holds the BRICS presidency this year under the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.” Senior officials from member nations will deliberate on issues such as asset recovery, combating cross-border corruption, tracing illicit financial flows, and strengthening transparency and accountability in governance. The first meeting of the BRICS anti-corruption working group was held virtually in June under India’s chairship and was led by the department of personnel and training. Delegates discussed ways to enhance cooperation in tracing and recovering illicit assets, dealing with fugitive offenders, and leveraging technology to curb corruption. Those discussions are expected to be taken forward during the Hyderabad meeting.Chief secretary Sanjay Jaju recently reviewed arrangements at the secretariat, with senior officials from both the state and central govts participating in the meeting. The city had earlier hosted the third BRICS employment working group meeting on July 13 and 14.
