45 smart classes launched in Ghaziabad schools
The classrooms are equipped with learning kits, educational material, colourful charts and wall paintings

Ghaziabad: Ghaziabad has set up 45 nipunshalas in govt primary schools to improve foundational literacy and numeracy through activity-based learning. Developed under corporate social responsibility (CSR) funding at a cost of about Rs 90 lakh, the classrooms are equipped with learning kits, educational material, colourful charts and wall paintings to make lessons more interactive.The initiative follows Ghaziabad’s 65th rank in UP’s 2025-26 Nipun assessment. The assessment, conducted between Jan 27 and Feb 9, evaluated children’s foundational reading, writing and arithmetic skills across 446 council-run primary schools.

The initiative aims to make learning more interactive and engaging for students

District basic education officer OP Yadav said the specialised classrooms, along with teacher and student workshops, are expected to improve learning outcomes and the district’s performance in future assessments. “The specialised classrooms have been created to make learning enjoyable for children. Workshops are also being organised for both teachers and students to strengthen classroom practices and improve learning outcomes,” he said.According to officials, each nipunshala has been developed at a cost of around Rs 2 lakh.

“Every school is instructed to train students in a way to make them more efficient to get the NIPUN tag. The interactive way of learning will make students more interested in their studies. We plan to make more such nipunshalas in future,” Yadav added.Teachers told TOI that the classrooms are being used regularly, with one class in attendance at a time. “The visual aids and activity-based learning materials are aimed at increasing students’ interest in studies and encouraging regular participation in classroom activities. The assessments are set for students from classes 1-3,” said a teacher at Bhoorgarhi Primary School.
