Bengaluru: On the third day of raids Sunday, food safety and drug administration (FDA) officials seized or discarded more than 100kg of food articles and 15 litres of used cooking oil from six hotels in the city.At Hotel Sky in UB City, officials found 45kg of rotten chicken and beef and 6kg of vegetable cutlets and 15 litres of used cooking oil. The 51kg of food articles were found unfit for consumption and discarded or destroyed as per procedure.Officials also seized 50kg of duck and 5kg of fish from Royal Chain Hotel.At Madras Kitchen, 5kg of green peas was seized, while 5kg of mushrooms was seized from Tescon Hotel. At Senchez Hotel, officials seized 3kg of fish, while 7kg of cake, potatoes and tacos were discarded.The kitchen of Skyee Lounge on the 16th floor of UB City was shut following an inspection that found unhygienic conditions and improperly stored food items. Officials found rotten meat, including beef, with fungus.Milk and curd packets that had expired around 10 days earlier were also found during the inspection.Sunday’s inspections followed FDA’s special drive against food safety violations at star hotels and establishments supplying food to them. The drive was launched following multiple public complaints and involved 30 special teams inspecting hotels and food facilities across Bengaluru.Friday, 26 star hotels in and around Bengaluru were inspected and 35 samples collected. Officials seized 105kg of expired food articles at one star hotel. At another hotel, 76kg of meat, 200kg of vegetables and 32 litres of expired milk were seized and destroyed.Saturday, the teams inspected food storage and distribution centres.
