3kg hydroponic weed worth Rs. 1.17 crore seized from 2 flyers at Pune airport

Customs officials said that in total 3348 grams of the high end weed was recovered the cost of which was estimated to be a whopping Rs. 1.17 crore in the illicit market.

PUNE: In yet another major catch of drugs from the Pune airport, the air intelligence unit of the city’s customs on Thursday caught two people and recovered nearly 3.5kgs of hydroponic weed from them.Customs officials said that in total 3348 grams of the high end weed was recovered the cost of which was estimated to be a whopping Rs. 1.17 crore in the illicit market. The duo had arrived in Pune from Bangkok on an Air India Express flight (IX-241), officials said.Officials said that the two men hailed from Kerala. “In the check-in baggage of one of them, 6 transparent vacuum sealed packets of marijuana wrapped in black paper was recovered. This passenger was accompanied by another man who aided him and was escorting him to ensure safe passage,” a senior customs official told TOI.The contraband was seized and the passengers were arrested under the NDPS Act, 1985. Further investigations were ongoing, the official added.Many catches of hydroponic weed have happened at the Pune airport in the recent past. Before this catch, the customs authorities in late March had caught 76.6kgs of the weed costing approximately Rs. 26.8 crore in the illicit market from a cargo consignment which had come to the airport from Thailand.
