Noida: Three agricultural labourers from Bihar were killed in a hit-and-run incident on Jewar-Khurja road on Wednesday. Police have seized the Scorpio SUV allegedly involved in the crash and also arrested the driver.Police said the accident occurred around 10.30pm near Neemka village in Jewar. Karan (22), Vishwajeet (24) and Mithun (25) were returning home on foot after finishing their work in the field when the SUV that was allegedly being driven at a high speed by Deepanshu (32) ran them over. The driver fled with the car. The three men died before any medical assistance could reach them. Police reached the spot and sent the bodies for autopsy.An initial investigation has found that the three men were from Araria district in Bihar and had come to Jewar about a month ago to work as labourers engaged in paddy transplantation during the monsoon. They were working on contract in nearby villages and depended on the seasonal income to support their families back home.Eyewitnesses told police that the Scorpio hit the men from behind. Based on CCTV footage from the surrounding area and other technical evidence, investigators identified the vehicle involved in the crash.The victims’ families were informed, and they turned up to collect the bodies. A case was registered under BNS sections for causing the death of a person by driving in a rash and negligent manner and endangering the life of a person by driving negligently, based on a complaint filed by the victims’ family members at the Jewar police station. Officers said multiple teams conducted raids and arrested Deepanshu, a resident of Dastampur village, on Thursday.The city has recorded 68 road crashes till May this year, in which 36 people were killed and 43 injured.The cops earlier identified nine police station areas and two high-risk road corridors, which together accounted for nearly 54% of all road accident fatalities in the district. The first corridor included areas under the police stations at sectors 39, 58, 113 and Bisrakh. The second corridor included areas under Badalpur, Surajpur, Dadri, Dankaur and Jewar police stations.
