Ghaziabad: The district administration has constituted a three-member inquiry committee to investigate complaints against 10 private schools accused of denying admission to children allotted seats under the Right to Education (RTE) quota. Officials said strict action, including proceedings to revoke the recognition of schools, will be initiated if the allegations are found to be true.According to officials, around 150 students were allotted seats in these 10 schools during the current admission cycle. However, parents complained that several schools either refused to allow the children inside the premises, denied admission outright or sought documents that were not required under the admission process.“Verification of documents is the responsibility of the education department. Once a child has been allotted a school under the RTE portal, the institution is required to complete the admission process. The committee has been formed to verify these complaints,” a senior basic shiksha adhikari department official said.A spokesperson from one of the schools under inquiry said RTE admissions are ongoing at the institution. “We have provided admission to few RTE students already, however, some students’ documents were found to be doubtful,” he said.Formed on the directions of the district magistrate, the inquiry committee comprises the additional district magistrate (city), the block education officer (headquarters) and the principal of the district institute of education and training (DIET).According to official data, 4,167 admissions have been completed so far out of 6,083 students allotted seats under the RTE quota in Ghaziabad this year. Schools found violating RTE provisions after the inquiry may face proceedings for withdrawal of recognition as per the prescribed rules.
