Cops to record statement of minor who took SUV out for spin, crashed into sedan

Noida: Police will record the statement of a 14-year-old boy at his home in Sector 122 after he allegedly drove his family’s SUV and rear-ended a sedan carrying a family with a 13-month-old child on Vikas Marg earlier this week.A senior officer in civil clothes will conduct the questioning in the presence of the boy’s parents, who will also be separately questioned and asked to furnish proof of the minor’s age and details of the circumstances that led him to drive the vehicle. The report will be submitted before a local court within 60 days, where a bench will determine the quantum of punishment and compensation based on the extent of damage.Police said both vehicles have been seized and a case has been registered under BNS sections 281 (rash driving) and 324(4) (mischief).According to a senior official, the seized vehicles will be examined by experts from the Motor Transport section, who will file a damage report. Notices will also be sent to the car’s owner and the minor’s parents to verify the details of the accident.“Our investigating officer will verify the details of both vehicles from the RTO. Simultaneously, the officer will record statements from those involved in the accident, particularly those who may have sustained injuries, and eyewitnesses,” a senior officer said.The Honda City owner, Kumar Shivam, said the collision caused significant damage to the rear of his car and that the boy attempted to flee before passersby intervened. In a video recorded after the crash, the boy’s mother was heard saying their driver had not turned up and that she had sent the minor to pick up his younger brother.
