Panaji: Clifford Miranda has signed a multi-year contract extension with Chennaiyin FC as the Goan coach continues his journey in the top tier of Indian football.Previously assistant at FC Goa, Odisha FC and Mohun Bagan, Miranda took over Chennaiyin last season as chief coach for the first time. Now, he will be at the helm for another season at a time when several clubs have been impatient with domestic coaches.Chennaiyin finished with nine points from 13 matches last season, finishing just above relegated Mohammedan Sporting Club.“I feel gratified by the trust shown by the management in extending my contract, despite the difficult season,” Miranda said in a statement on Saturday. “I thank Mrs (Vita) Dani and the CFC board/management for having faith in me and trusting the process. I believe we are making progress and will continue to do so, turning promises into performances and performances into results.“The team will stay true to its identity, adapting to situations and pushing to elevate each other to bring success to the club.”Co-owner Dani said Miranda demonstrated strong leadership, a clear footballing philosophy, and a deep commitment to developing young Indian talent.“His passion for the club and understanding of what Chennaiyin FC stands for make him the right person to lead us into the future. We believe continuity is key to building sustained success, and we are excited about what lies ahead under his guidance,” said Dani.Miranda has been speaking with younger players, trying to rebuild at Chennaiyin. His first signing for the season was FC Goa winger Brison Fernandes, a player he has seen from close during their time together with Goa’s development squad in the Goa Professional League (GPL).
