Gurgaon: Cyber crime police arrested three men for allegedly running a fake investment and insurance scam through a call centre and duping people of lakhs of rupees by luring them into bogus insurance policies and govt bond schemes.Police identified the accused as Udit Chopra (31), Jitesh Kumar Srivastava (34) and Himanshu Premi alias Sardar (32), all originally from Delhi and currently residing in Ghaziabad.According to police, the trio cheated a resident of nearly Rs 26 lakh by posing as representatives of One Server Capital Advice LLP and convincing him to invest in insurance policies and govt bonds.The case was registered at cyber crime police station, Manesar, on Jan 21 after the victim filed a complaint alleging he had been defrauded.Investigators found that Himanshu and Jitesh had worked with an insurance company in Ghaziabad and allegedly used company data to identify and contact potential targets. Police said the two later set up a call centre from where callers misled victims into investing in fake schemes. Udit was allegedly hired to make fraudulent calls.During investigation, police traced the cheated amount to a bank account from where cash was withdrawn through ATM and cheque transactions.Police said two accused — Shyam and Arjun Singh — accused of withdrawing money through ATMs, were arrested earlier on May 6. Dharmendra Singh, accused of arranging SIM cards, and Amit Kumar Yadav alias Satyam, accused of withdrawing cash, were arrested from Uttar Pradesh on May 8.Police recovered 13 mobile phones, seven SIM cards and ₹50,000 cash from the three accused arrested in Ghaziabad on May 25. Jitesh and Himanshu were remanded to three days’ police custody, while Udit was sent to judicial custody. Further investigation is underway.
