Chennai: A three-day special drive began on Wednesday to enrol young and eligible voters, said chief electoral officer Archana Patnaik in a statement.Patnaik said special focus would be given to urban areas to increase the enrolment of young and first-time eligible electors. The services of electoral literacy clubs in schools and colleges would be utilised to create awareness among the target group, she said. There are about 1,300 electoral literacy clubs in the state.Patnaik said special drives would also be conducted in districts, wherever they are required, on Oct 10 for the same purpose.The chief electoral officer also said that regular meetings would be held by electoral registration officers with booth-level officers to review and monitor the progress of the special drive and ensure its effective implementation.
