Bengaluru: Spurious drugs worth Rs 12 crore have been sold to hospitals and clinics in Bengaluru and outside of Karnataka since Feb 2025, according to ongoing probe into the drugs scam.Special Investigation Team has arrested eight persons, including kingpin Veeresh Kumar Jain who sold fake drugs through his Krupa Health Care, in connection with the case. Jain is currently in SIT custody.A source privy to the probe said that accused persons were selling fake drugs, mainly marking it with Pfizer label, since Feb 2025. “We strongly suspect they were into illegal trade for many years before this case came to light. We’ll conduct a forensic audit of the accounts and other documents. Veeresh’s pharmacy has been operational since 2021. He and another prime suspect, R Prashanth, have been working together as pharma distributors since 2019,” the source added.A resident of Papareddypalya in west Bengaluru, Prashant is held in Azerbaijan after immigration officials impounded his passport. “We’re issuing a red-corner notice to bring Prashant to India at the earliest to fast-track the probe,” a senior police official said.On Aug 18, police, along with officials from the drug department, raided a stockhouse near Ramanagara, Bengaluru South district, and unearthed a multi-state fake drug supply mafia.
