Youth gets 7-year term for kidnapping minor girl

Ludhiana: A fast-track court has sentenced a 22-year-old man to seven years of rigorous imprisonment for kidnapping a minor girl. The court also imposed a fine of Rs 10,000 on the convict, Raj Mohan Yadav. If he fails to pay, he will face an additional ten months of imprisonment. The case dates back to September 28, 2023, when the Jamalpur police booked Yadav, a native of Bihar residing in Dhanansu village, under Sections 363 and 366-A of the IPC. The victim, born in April 2008, was a minor at the time of the incident.According to the prosecution, the victim’s father saw his daughter being forcibly kidnapped in a white Swift car while she was walking to his shop on September 20, 2023. Yadav was accompanied by three unidentified accomplices. Although the father chased the vehicle, the kidnappers fled at high speed, making it impossible for him to note the car’s registration number. The complainant informed the court that he had previously warned Yadav to stop talking to his daughter, but he did not desist. While Yadav was eventually arrested, his three accomplices remained untraceable during the police investigation.During the trial, Yadav claimed he was innocent and that the case was a concocted story. However, the court rejected his defense, noting that he failed to prove any existing enmity with the girl’s family that would lead them to file a false complaint. The judge observed that the accused had not filed any complaints with higher authorities regarding his alleged false implication, nor did he present any evidence in his defence. The court concluded that Yadav had enticed the minor away without her guardian’s consent with the clear intention of marriage.
