4 suffer burn injuries after blast in Abohar house

Abohar: Four persons suffered burn injuries after “a spark in the generator wire” caused a fire and “triggered blasts” in a house located in the Patel Park area of Abohar Tuesday night.Eyewitnesses said the doors of the house and nearby shops were blown off. The fire brigade reached the site and extinguished the fire. While three injured persons were admitted to Abohar civil hospital, Puja, who suffered 95% burns, has been shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot.A man operating a tandoor in a nearby shop and a customer were among the injured. The explosion was reported from the house of Deepu Chugh. Fazilka senior superintendent of police Gurmeet Singh said preliminary reports suggested that the fire might have started due to a spark in the wiring of a generator, powering a sugarcane machine.“A spark in the generator wire may have caused the fire. The stock of soda bottles kept in the house burst subsequently, generating blast-like sounds that blew off the shutters of the nearby shops and damaged the wall as well,” said the SSP.The locals, however, contested the claims made by the police, saying it was highly unlikely that bursting soda bottles could have caused the roof to collapse and damaged shutters across the street. They also highlighted that the house owner used to sell firecrackers on Diwali, and demanded an investigation to verify whether any leftover crackers were stocked in the house.
