Ghaziabad: A woman and her mother, who claimed they were taking home a pregnant stray cow after residents requested them to care for the animal, were allegedly assaulted by a group that accused them of taking it for slaughter in Modinagar. Police have registered an FIR after a video of the incident surfaced on social media.Deepa (31) and her mother, Suman, both residents of Nand Nagri, told police the cow had been wandering in the locality for several days without anyone looking after it. Fearing it could give birth at any time, some residents approached them because they had been rearing cattle for years and asked them to shelter the animal.“We were taking the cow home when a woman, Sapna Aggarwal, and two others stopped us. They accused us of taking it for slaughter, abused us and began assaulting us. Sapna slapped us repeatedly, and they threatened to kill us. Both my mother and I suffered injuries,” Deepa said in her complaint.Police said they traced the victims after examining the video on social media and subsequently registered a case.ACP Bhaskar Verma said an FIR was lodged against Sapna Aggarwal and two unidentified persons under sections 115 (voluntarily causing hurt), 352 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace) and 351(3) (criminal intimidation) of the BNS.“A police team has been formed. We are examining the evidence and action will be taken against the accused accordingly,” Verma said.
