Gurgaon: A woman posing as a customer allegedly stole gold earrings worth Rs 4.6 lakh from a jewellery showroom in Sadaz Bazar after distracting staff and leaving behind a token advance of Rs 500 to avoid suspicion. The stolen earrings weighed around 28.5 grams and were made of 22-carat goldThe theft came to light days later when employees at Shriram Jewellers conducted a stock verification and found that a pair of gold earrings was missing from the showroom’s inventory. Subsequent examination of CCTV footage revealed the woman stole the jewellery while it was being shown to her by sales staff on June 12.According to a complaint filed by Shalu Singh, a sales executive at the jewellery store, the incident occurred on June 12 at around 5pm.Shalu told police that a man and a woman entered the showroom and asked to see gold earrings. She began showing them various designs, and the duo spent considerable time examining the jewellery pieces on display.After looking through the collection, the duo selected a set of gold earrings and deposited Rs 500 as an advance amount. They told showroom staff that they would return the following day to complete the payment and collect the jewellery.The woman, who identified herself as Kavita, provided a mobile number and said she lived in C-Block, opposite Palam Vihar, Ashok Vihar, Gurgaon. The duo subsequently left the showroom.When they failed to return the next day, showroom employees attempted to contact them on the mobile number provided at the time of booking. However, the calls went unanswered.The matter took a serious turn when employees matched the showroom inventory and discovered that one pair of gold earrings was missing.Police suspect the duo used the pretext of purchasing jewellery to gain the confidence of the showroom employees before carrying out the theft. Investigators are also examining the role of the man who accompanied the woman during the visit.Based on the complaint, a case was registered under Section 305 (theft in a dwelling house) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.Police are analysing the CCTV footage, verifying the identity and address details furnished by the woman, and attempting to trace both suspects. Further investigation is underway.
