Woman driver hits elderly couple in west Delhi, held

NEW DELHI: A 79-year-old man and his 71-year-old wife were injured after a Hyundai Creta allegedly hit them near Arya Samaj Mandir in west Delhi’s Kirti Nagar on Friday, police said.The incident took place on October 2, following which police registered an FIR at Kirti Nagar police station under Sections 281 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).The accused, identified as 49-year-old Navleen Kaur, was arrested in connection with the case, police said. The Hyundai Creta involved in the accident has also been impounded.The injured couple, identified as Dayanand Tagra, 79, and Kusum Tagra, 71, were taken to a hospital and are recovering, police said.Police are investigating the circumstances that led to the accident and are examining evidence collected from the spot.CCTV footage has surfaced capturing a hit-and-run incident involving an elderly couple. The video shows the pair walking along the road when they are suddenly struck by a grey SUV.The force of the impact throws the elderly man onto the vehicle’s bonnet before he is hurled onto the road, where he immediately begins bleeding. A few feet away, his wife is seen lying motionless after being knocked unconscious by the collision.As alarmed passersby and local witnesses rush to the scene to offer assistance to the injured couple, the driver of the offending vehicle briefly steps out. However, rather than rendering aid or calling for emergency services, the driver inspects the injured victims on the ground before getting back into the SUV and fleeing the spot, leaving the bystanders to tend to the victims.
